Letter to the Editor
Reader asks for students to rally for legal marijuana

As a responsible and active member of your society, I am writing to urge you to do all that you can to stop our law enforcement from having marijuana offenses as a top priority. So many of us have been arrested and charged, if not convicted, for cultivating, selling or smoking. Yet so many of us partake in one or all of these activities daily. I am tired of turning my cheek. As a prominent university where "Penn State Proud" is on the lips of all students (or else you wouldn't be here), let's advocate for change.

Let's do something. How many of you are as tired as I am hearing about how our friends and fellow students are getting busted and thrown into jail? We are not killing, raping, endangering -- we are not criminals. Help me fight for our rights. Check out Web sites such as NORML, Marijuana Policy Projects and so many others that are doing exactly what needs to be done. Join me at the March for Peace in Philadelphia on April 20 at high noon at the Independence Hall. Write to your city council, rally, vote, talk, join. Get active. Do something. "Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds." Peace and love for all people.
