Man attacked in Laundromat

Collegian Staff Writer

A man was struck in the face with a beer bottle and robbed while doing his laundry alone inside a downtown Laundromat at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, State College police said.

The victim was approached inside Wash Around the Clock, 230B W. College Ave., by two white men who initially entered the building asking him for a light, police said.

It is unknown if the victim was a Penn State student, police said.

After leaving, the suspects -- who are thought to be in their 20s -- returned shortly and struck him in the face with a beer bottle before demanding his wallet, according to a police press release.

When the victim refused to hand over his wallet, one of the suspects lifted up his shirt to show a knife tucked into the front of his pants, according to the press release.

Police said the victim offered $10 to the two men, who took the money and ran out the door.

Police are also investigating a second attempted robbery, which occurred at about 1 a.m. yesterday.

The female victim was walking through Central Parklet, 241 S. Fraser St., when she heard running footsteps approaching from behind, according to another press release. A man then attempted to grab her shoulder purse, but ran away after his attempt was unsuccessful, according to the release.

The female victim said she saw a second man fleeing with her attacker, according to the release.

Police said the descriptions of the men in both attacks are "very similar."

The suspects were described as wearing jeans and sweatshirts with the hoods pulled up. One of the sweatshirts was red and the other was dark-colored, according to police.

They were both described as having thin builds and standing about six feet tall, with dirty blond to dark colored hair.

Police said the suspects told the male victim in the earlier conversation that they were brothers visiting from Florida.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 234-7150.
