Letter to the Editor
Voicing concerns, opinions will better Penn State life

In response to Gavin Keirans' guest column ("USG member concerned for PSU's future") in Tuesday's Collegian, I must say that I agree on many levels. However, to argue that the administration is stripping away students' rights would not necessarily be an inaccurate statement. I would like to say that I do not put all of the blame on them. As Gavin mentioned, we are a gigantic school. We are in a postmodern age, which causes people be to self-involved, and to boot we are students simply trying to educate ourselves. Time is not something that students have a lot of. The student population as a whole does not acknowledge, let alone respect, other students as human beings. And there is evidentiary support for this rather generalized claim. Look at the hostile attitudes that face people who are LGBT, people of color, and people who are disabled on this campus. The administration is in the wrong for taking away students' rights. However, the students are in the wrong for letting them do it over and over. And students are in the wrong when they tell other students to "stop bitching." We need to start organizing as students against the administration -- nothing will make them more scared.
