Musician's offbeat jams to entertain

Collegian Staff Writer

The State Theatre's Innovator's Series continues tonight with a shade of blues.

Kristy Cyone, marketing and sales manager of The State Theatre, said James Hunter's recordings feature rhythm and blues.

She added that Hunter's lyrics are backed up by a soulful R&B band and sound.

"I went onto MySpace to check out his music, and I can't stop moving," she said.

Cyone said that even though Hunter's name may not sound familiar, the type of music that he has to offer is innovative and shouldn't be missed.

"It's so interesting to see what artists are doing, and on this level is where you see the blending of soul, R&B and blues," she said. "James Hunter is creating a new genre of music."

Cyone added that Hunter is a quality artist and he is guaranteed to have a great rhythm and blues show, which would impress the millions of people that may be unfamiliar with his name.

"I guarantee [the audience] will come out with big eyes," she said. "This is another piece of what The State Theatre can offer the community."

Cyone said that Hunter is a very innovative and eclectic type of musician.

"He provides more depth than popular music," she said. "He is not something you would normally hear on the regular radio stations."

Lauren Contino (junior-accounting), said that she believes Penn State students would enjoy Hunter's R&B concert; however, Contino added that The State Theatre has poor tactics when it comes to pulling more students to the venue.

"I think students would be very responsive to concerts, especially James Hunter, but the shows are not publicized well and they are pretty expensive," she said.
