Cocco, along with Interfraternity Council Associate Vice President (AVP) Jason Giner and Panhellenic Council AVP Kathleen Asklar, selected the committee. He said last year's overall committee had some input, as did Thon adviser Felicia McGinty.
Candidate applications were due March 28.
"We asked questions about their leadership experience, along with ideas for next year -- not only for the positions they were applying for, but for Thon as a whole," Cocco said.
After applicants expressed their desire to be members of the 2008 overall committee, they went through an interview process.
Cocco said selecting the students to fill the 14 positions was difficult.
"We had approximately 60 of the most dedicated leaders within Thon who had many years of experience already apply," he said. "We had to select 14 individuals out of that group, so it was tough."
Cocco said the candidates did not apply for one position specifically, but those selected were placed "wherever Thon needs them."
After the 14 overall chairpersons had been selected, Cocco called them to offer each a place on the overall committee, but at first did not specify which position.
"Before I told them what position they would be, I asked if they would accept my offer to be on the committee," he said. "But usually they were so loud and screaming with excitement, [that] I took that as a 'yes.' "
Mike Ducker, the new morale overall chairman, said he didn't expect to be picked, adding that he knew that all five people who put down morale as their first choice were qualified.
"Did I expect it? No. Was I qualified? Yes," he said. "I knew that, no matter what, they were going to pick an incredible committee, and I was fine with that."
Next year's family relations overall, Elissa Weinbach, was also happy.
"I was kind of in shock, and I told my roommates and they were very excited for me. I still don't think it's sunk in yet, but I'm very excited."
