Letter to the Editor
Support isn't always blind

Mr. Johnson, I must disagree with you ("One must support mission to also support the troops," April 2). I grew up during WWII, the daughter of a proud WWII veteran and a woman who lost her first husband in that same conflict. I spent a summer at Quantico before pursing other goals.

My husband was an officer in the U.S. Army for more than 20 years. My son is of age to serve, but is thankfully enjoying his time at Penn State. You most certainly can support your troops without blind allegiance to their mission. One of the finest ways to support your troops is to wish for and work for their speedy and safe return home.

Please accept my thanks for your service to this country, and my prayers for your safety and that of all men and women in uniform. Remember that many people respect what you do, but may question the orders you were given.
