State College police are investigating an early Sunday burglary and assault at a downtown apartment party, and the party's hosts are alleging that Penn State football players were involved.
Police have not filed charges or named any suspects, though a press release from police indicated that all the actors had been identified.
Two residents of the apartment and four other sources present at the party, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said they identified to the police that football players were part of a group that entered a party at a third-floor Meridian II apartment, 646 E. College Ave.
Police said the residents of the apartment reported that about nine or 10 men "pushed their way into the apartment and began assaulting several males who were attending a party" at about midnight on Sunday, according to the press release.
Police said that the alleged burglary and assault was related to a confrontation that occurred at the intersection of High Street and East College Avenue.
Residents of the apartment told The Daily Collegian they plan on pressing charges.
One Penn State football player, cornerback Justin King, confirmed that he spoke to police about a party he attended Saturday night. He said he was not involved in the fight that occurred at the party and declined to comment further.
Residents and the four sources present at the party said a group of men entered uninvited and assaulted at least three men.
No one else confirmed their involvement by press time last night.
Detective Steve Bosak was listed as a contact on the statement, but he did not return multiple phone calls for comment.
Lt. John Gardner, who issued the release, was reached at home but refused to comment.
Penn State athletic spokesman Jeff Nelson was reached on his cell phone but said he did not know anything about the incident.
Penn State spokesman Bill Mahon also said he didn't know about the incident.
"I'm not aware of this," Penn State athletic director Tim Curley said yesterday afternoon. "I don't know anything about it."
