What a sad day it was for what used to be a prestigious institution.

With Tim Curley and Graham Spanier perhaps forcing class-act Rene Portland to resign ("Portland resigns," March 23), it illustrates how they gave in to the vocal far left-wing minority. Her community contributions, generous scholarship endowment to the university, choice to raise foster children, incredible graduation rate and a number nine ranking on the all-time win list are all traits of Rene that all should be so diligent in attempting to follow.

Let's see, you took a walk to Paterno's house in 2004, you extended DeChellis's contract after numerous losing seasons, and now you force one of the best out.

In baseball, that is three strikes.

Please Curley and Spanier, take a hike as soon as you can, as Penn State does not need people like you.

And let me know where I can return my Penn State flag, magnets and even diploma, which is now forever tarnished because of your actions. Any mail sent to me from Penn State will be refused, "return to sender" as this is a complete and utter failure of the administration. My children will definitely be steered toward any other academic institution aside from Penn State.
