Letter to the Editor
Hollywood is influenced through financial pressure

Joe Ramagli seems to be wishing he could have the same effect on college students as the liberals ("Documentary shows college liberal bias," March 28). Not that watching Indoctrinate U would be wrong. On the contrary, I believe it should be watched. However, I believe having a distinct orientation is one of the hallmarks of American universities. I'm not even a liberal, or a conservative. I usually straddle the fence, as a moderate independent.

But I'm under the impression that while most colleges and universities have a liberal slant, there are still some schools that have that conservative slant, even though most of these schools are Christian schools.

I believe that students shouldn't come to college looking for a viewpoint or indoctrination, but with a viewpoint of their own already. Yes, their viewpoints may slant a little left, however, some go further to the right. In high school I was a staunch liberal, probably because I went to an extremely conservative high school. But in college I've gone further to the right, because of values that I've found and cultured in college.

We can all agree that Hollywood is more than a little liberal, but if a film gets enough backing, then Hollywood has no choice but to produce it, for fear of losing profits. While Hollywood is liberal, they cannot be deterred from the pursuit of the almighty dollar. So I can't agree that it's a liberal conspiracy that is keeping Indoctrinate U out of theaters. It may play a part, but Hollywood, like most businesses, has a price.
