'Drinking culture' not new

I am writing in response to "Officials: PSU brews strong drinking culture" published on March 23. The officials who are so surprised and astonished that students would actually drink alcohol while going out must have been sheltered their entire life. Many of these officials grew up as Baby Boomers, and we all know that generation drank and did a lot more drugs than the majority of us today.

The ones who did not seem to socialize during this time period seemed to have come to State College to become an authority figure. This article is no shock to anyone especially to someone who grew up in the '60s and '70s.

Have you seen the movie Animal House? It has been around for almost 30 years. This movie portrays some of the most intense college drinking hands down to any other modern movie. Wake up, State College and Penn State officials. This culture has been around for many generations and is not about to end here in State College. To Mayor Bill Welch, I think you are the one who "needs to get a life," not us. You are the mayor of a college town. How lame is that?
