WNBA selects Brown to attend Draft Camp

Senior post player Amanda Brown has been selected to attend the WNBA Pre-Draft Camp, which will be held March 30-31 at Cleveland State University during the NCAA Women's Final Four.

The WNBA Pre-Draft Camp offers WNBA coaches and general managers an opportunity to evaluate the skills of approximately 40 top prospects from the current senior class. The players participate in on-court sessions scheduled for the morning, afternoon and evening. The 2007 WNBA Draft will take place in Cleveland on April 4 as 39 players will be selected in the 13-team, three-round draft.

Brown was an All-Big Ten first team selection for the first time as she completed a career-best season. The senior post player broke the Penn State single-season rebounding record with 317 caroms on the season. She is also the first Lady Lion to win the Big Ten rebounding crown (10.9 rpg) in conference play since Penn State joined the league in 1992-93. Brown was second on the team in scoring this season with a 14.2 per game effort, which is eighth in the Big Ten, and is third in the league in field goal percentage (.593).

PSU freshman named Player of the Week

Penn State freshman middle hitter Max Lipsitz has been named the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Player of the Week, conference officials announced. It is the first career honor for Lipsitz and the third conference accolade for the Nittany Lions this year, as senior outside hitter Alex Gutor and junior setter Luke Murray have also been honored.

Behind Lipsitz, the sixth-ranked Nittany Lions gained two important wins last weekend. On Friday at EIVA-foe Rutgers-Newark, the freshman set a new career high with 15 kills while attacking at a .700 clip, committing only one error in his 20 attacks. He tied his career best with three digs and added three blocks for a career-best point total of 16.5. On Saturday at home against MIVA-rival No. 11 IPFW, Lipsitz just missed his personal-best mark, racking up 13 kills on .545 hitting. He tallied a career-high three service aces and notched a personal-best eight blocks to set a new career-high with 20.0 total points.

For the weekend, Lipsitz averaged 3.11 kills per game on .619 hitting with 1.22 blocks per game and 4.06 points per game.
