With both teams having four consecutive victories, the Penn State and Michigan women's tennis teams will dual today to decide who will walk away with the winning streak.

The Nittany Lions will play host to the No. 35 Wolverines at 5 p.m. today at the Penn State Indoor Tennis Center.

The Lions (7-6, 1-1 Big Ten) are coming off of a doubleheader against Toledo Rockets (6-1) and the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (7-0), where the victory over Lehigh marked the Lions' first shutout this season.

With their match today, the Lions are excited to see what Michigan has to bring to the court.

"This is a big match for us," women's coach Buffy Baker said, adding that this is the only match of the weekend.

Although are both Penn State and Michigan both competing for their fifth consecutive win, the Lions are more focused on what they need to do get a victory moreso than the matchup between identical winning streaks.

"We don't focus on who is going to get their next win," Baker said. "We just focus on gaining momentum."

Michigan, who recently just had two victories over Western Michigan, 4-3, and No. 54 Alabama, 6-1, had a 6-5 victory in doubles and won four of six singles matches against Western Michigan.

Against Alabama, the Wolverines dominated in doubles with senior Jenny Kuehn and sophomore Chisako Sugiyama defeating the Crimson Tide, 8-3. Kuehn and Sugiyama currently hold a team-best overall record of 9-2.

As the Lions get closer to their match, they have been working on their conditioning levels as the postseason approaches.

Last week's matches, while not against strenuous competition, served as preparation for the Lions, as they worked on execution and getting some matches under their belt.

"They helped us prepare, but not by their level of competition," said Baker.

Baker said that the Toledo match showed what areas work, but their mistakes have been noticed earlier in the season, particularly executing game plans.

Against Toledo, Baker said that senior Sasha Abraham had a great match. With a pair of 6-0 wins, Baker is hoping she carries that momentum this today.
