Letter to the Editor
Battle about the word 'fat' an absurd waste of time

In response to Jennifer Hand's letter ("'Fat' started in New Jersey," March 19), I too am from New Jersey. Specifically, from East Brunswick, the neighboring town to New Brunswick. So, I, too grew up with the Grease Trucks Fat Sandwiches, and was amazed when Are U Hungry opened here last year. So amazed in fact that I spoke to the owner. You see, the family that runs Are U Hungry owned the original Grease Truck that served the Fat Darrell. They were called R U Hungry. (Get it?) He told me that since then, they moved into a store in New Brunswick like one here. So they have as much a right to name their sandwiches fat sandwiches as anyone, if not more so. Still, the argument between Are U Hungry and Mr. C's is absurd. The sandwiches have been at Rutgers so long that they are no longer limited to the Grease Trucks, which compete with each other. As far as I'm aware, no one is suing over the right to the "Fat" trademark in the state of its origin, why should anyone be granted the sole use of it here?
