After back-to-back wins on Sunday over Toledo and Lehigh, the winning streak for the Penn State women's tennis team increased to four straight matches.

The Nittany Lions went into the two matches following their first Big Ten win of the season last weekend against the Wisconsin Badgers. They finished last week, 5-2 overall.

After a four-day break, the Lions went back into action against Toledo and Lehigh. They defeated the Toledo Rockets, 6-1, and the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, 7-0, bringing their overall record to 7-6 and 1-1 in the Big Ten.

"We prepared as if we played our best," said women's coach Buffy Baker. "We played as if we were playing a Big Ten school."

The Lions dominated in doubles with an impressive performance from junior Jenny Shular and freshman Sarah Lotto, who defeated Toledo's Myriam Cueva and Nadia Zoubareva, 8-7.

Senior Sasha Abraham was undefeated during singles play, going 6-0 in both sets against Martina Wodzinski.

Senior Andreea Niculescu had the lone loss for Penn State where she fell to Myriam Cueva, 6-7, 7-4, 5-7, but Baker noted she has improved over the course of the season.

"She struggled a bit and it was a winnable match," said Baker. "Her time is coming, and she is continuing to gain confidence."

With a victory under their belt, the Lions prepared for their second match against Lehigh.

The Lions swept the Mountain Hawks in both the doubles and singles matches.

In doubles play, the pairs of Abraham and Holzberg and McCarthy and Dohanics both went 8-1, while Shular and Lotto dominated in an 8-0 victory.

"Both of the matches were good for singles and doubles," Baker said. "We took care of business and were confident. We stayed focused and that further developed in the game."
