Letter to the Editor
Honest reviews not always complimentary to the band

This letter is written in defense of the Collegian arts staff. Forgive my hyperbole, but for what seems to be the 100th time this year, people have written letters to the Collegian, furious with erroneous concert reviews.

Let's get this straight.

A good review does not always mean happy faces, rainbows and high praise.

Anyone familiar with good journalism knows that, theoretically, everything printed in a newspaper should be objective, especially in the case of musical review, where personal preference is nearly impossible to discount.

So if Nickelback makes the crowd wait 40 minutes and charges $70 for a sweatshirt, there is no need to sugarcoat it.

Writers like Adam Clair have been doing a great job reviewing the music scene without letting focus stray from the ultimate goal -- an honest review.

To the arts staff: Keep up the good work.
