To every fan of every crappy band that has played the BJC this year: Stop blaming the critics for doing their job.
Yes, it is no secret that writers like Adam Clair and Kevin Doran have given out many negative reviews. It is also no secret that the BJC's booking agents can't seem to find quality artists to take their stage. I understand that it hurts to have your favorite band bashed in print the morning after you're still reveling at their "phenomenal show." However, the catchiness of a Nickelback or an O.A.R. song does not compensate for its lack of musicianship and lyrical merit.
And don't accuse a reviewer of having a narrow musical mindset; odds are you've never heard of half the bands on his or her iPod (nor would you know how to classify them).
You can throw the "they hate anything popular" argument out the window, too.
If the Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins or any artist from BJC yesteryear were to return, I guarantee they would receive nothing but praise from the Collegian.
Oh, and to BJC officials Al Karosas and Bernie Punt: Why not Wilco?
