This will mark my first and last time I submit a letter to the editor. I would like to thank Adam Clair for giving me one of the few concert reviews from the Collegian that wasn't blatant ass-kissing to the band. He went to the whole show and gave an honest opinion. Being well-rounded does not mean liking crap music.
My response is not just in utter contempt of Nickelback, rather to the responses.
People seem to get personally offended when you attack "their" genre of music.
Nickelback and bands like them thrive on people like that. People who put no real effort into finding good music, people who will download whatever MTV throws at them.
If it's good to play beer pong too, then I guess you got yourself a hit record. I would also like to thank Nickelback for creating so many carbon-copy bands in this town. The few bands that do play originals manage to sound exactly like their covers.
I feel sorry for the people at the Collegian sometimes, having to attend these benign, boring concerts, devoid of any originality or difference.
It's not the BJC's fault so much as this is what sells. Adam Clair knew what he was getting into and the fact that it was a dull show says something.
Some good ol' fashioned songs about sex, beer and fighting for your country. Who can argue with that?
Apparently those with musical taste, myself and Adam Clair included.
