On Saturday, the Penn State Philharmonic Orchestra, Centre Dimensions Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and Concert Choir traveled to Pittsburgh to play at the Pittsburgh Symphony's home, Heinz Hall.
The event was titled the "President's Concert," which was hosted by Graham Spanier and included many other important Penn State figure heads in attendance in order to celebrate and praise the significant achievements and talents of Penn State student music ensembles.
I was looking forward to reading the Collegian Monday, assuming that because the event was at such a significant venue, with wonderful music and our president present, we would receive some deserved recognition. I was disappointed, but not surprised, that once again the arts were underrepresented and under appreciated. Most of the daily news pertained to the Penn State drinking culture, which sadly has no culture at all. Unfortunately, it was more important to report largely on "State Patrick's Day," a holiday that does not exist, rather than the dedication and talents of about 180 of Penn State's most artistic, distinguished students. Bravo, Penn State.
