However, Penn State dropped the Friday nightcap with a 1-0 pitchers' duel setback to the host Owls. Both teams were held scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning when an FAU triple followed by a single broke the stalemate and handed the Lions their lone loss of the tournament.
On Saturday, Reynolds notched two more wins as Penn State defeated Bethune-Cookman, 7-1, and Columbia, 6-2.
Sunday's championship game presented the Lions with a chance to avenge their heart-breaking loss to FAU, and Reynolds made sure the result would be much different than the low-scoring affair.
She set the tone for the game with a three-RBI double that helped Penn State jump out to a 4-0 lead before the Owls even had a chance to bat.
And when FAU did step up to the plate, Reynolds shut them down as effectively as she drove-in runs. She tossed her second one-hitter of the weekend while providing all the offense she needed. Reynolds finished the day 2-for-3 with five RBIs while registering four strikeouts as Penn State blanked the Owls, 7-0, to claim the Miken Classic championship and raise its record back up to the .500 mark.
Reynolds was the star of the weekend for the Lions. She finished the tournament 6-for-10 with seven RBIs while tossing 23 innings and allowing two earned runs on nine hits to go along with 18 strikeouts.
Freshman left fielder Ashley Griffith led Penn State in hits for the weekend as she finished the tournament 7-for-14 with four runs scored.
The wins restored the Lions' confidence after their shaky trek out west. Penn State hopes to carry its 7-2 record in the east along with the momentum from the Miken Classic to the Pacific Coast. The team travels to Fresno, Calif., next weekend for the Bulldog Classic at Fresno State after an 0-5 West Coast swing two weeks ago.
