No real progress has been made toward a merger between the USG and UPUA, more than a week after USG dissolved and expressed intent to combine the two student groups.
The UPUA internal development committee met last night, but they did not discuss the merger.
Internal development chairman John Richter said that while the committee was looking into the merger, they would not make a decision until they at least had more information about what UPUA needed to do to meet the merger requirements.
"I'm optimistic that this occurrence will bring about a more unified student voice and it will be easier to represent students," Richter said. "I'm just a little confused about the vagueness of their document and what they think needs to be changed with UPUA."
Richter said that he had not spoken to anyone from the USG trust about a meeting yet and the two groups will most likely not meet until after spring break.
The UPUA has also formed an ad-hoc committee to evaluate the organization's constitution.
However, Ralph Crivello, chairman of the committee, said it would not be discussing USG's merger requirements until the internal development committee made a decision.
"It's only been a week. They have more than two weeks," he said. "I feel confident that if UPUA does make a decision regarding whether or not they want to make structural changes, then the committee can definitely work toward that goal."
