NEWS

The nonjury trial of a Penn State student accused of raping another student at a fraternity in October 2005 has been continued to allow more time for negotiation with the prosecution, the defense lawyer said.

Though some students have complained that Centre Area Transit Authority (CATA) buses are more crowded this year, the company is reporting an overall decrease in on-campus riders.

Starting today, students can pay off portions of their student loan balance while still in school by shopping online or buying products such as Scott tissue or Tylenol at their local grocery stores.

Higher education teaching opportunities available to women are considerably lower than opportunities for men, resulting in an under representation of women in academia, according to a recent study.

In July, Rockview prison had room for about 100 more inmates.

Police apprehended a Muncy woman yesterday a few hours after police said her husband walked into a College Township office bleeding "profusely."

Most local bars are slating tomorrow a normal business day, though students -- and police -- say they're still preparing for "State Patty's Day."

The n-word is often used in everyday conversation, yet the debate over the word's true meaning is much more complex than black and white.

News in brief

SPORTS

The Penn State men's track and field team was not expected to contend for the conference title at this past weekend's Big Ten Indoor Championships.

Indianapolis, a point of convergence of several major interstate highways, is known as the Crossroads of America. And this weekend it plays host to the 2007 Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament.

For Justin Hundley, it was a tough decision: To play his senior year with the Penn State men's rugby team, or to spend it flying around the world representing the United States in numerous tournaments.

The Robert Morris (Pa.) Colonials gave Penn State all that they could handle in the first round of the ACHA National Tournament yesterday -- and much more.

For the first time in literally months, more than two Penn State men's basketball players had double-digits to the right of their names on the Bryce Jordan Center scoreboard.

She arrived quietly in the doorway, backpack still on, a blue Penn State coat still draped on her arms. The calm she brings, highlighted with a smile fixed on her face, is typical of the senior center for the Penn State women's basketball team. Her grin does not disappear, not even for the slightest second. It is genuine and disarming, welcoming even to the most distant stranger.

On a night that saw goals scored by 13 different players, the No. 14 Penn State women's lacrosse team routed Bucknell for the second year in a row, 19-6.

Going into the Big Ten tournament this weekend, the No. 11 Penn State wrestling team will have eight representatives competing in the tournament.

Mike Walker stood, smiled and pumped his fist. Then he walked over to the front row of the student section at the Bryce Jordan Center and handed out high-fives.

My Opinion: Big Ten a bigger deal than first expected

ARTS

The Naked Trucker & T-bones Show airs Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m. on Comedy Central. David Koechner and Dave 'Gruber' Allen have been together for more than 10 years, honing their characters. Though many try to discredit the show bysaying it's a cheap satire of the stereotypical redneck lifestyle, the duo said they feel the characters are worth more than face value. As evident in this Q and A, the boys really love what they do and want to make the TV show work.

Although Thon is over, students have another chance to support dancing for a cure for cancer this weekend at a benefit dance show.

Tomorrow may now be known to some as State Patty's Day, but Irish drinking songs won't be the only ones sung on the impromptu holiday.

They have All The Right Reasons to burst into State College with their heads held high: 12 smash singles, three 2006 Billboard Awards and worldwide album sales totaling nearly 25 million.

Something big, bold and beautiful is coming to Happy Valley.

City Lights' Top 10 Best Buys of the Week

For the first time ever, Penn State students will have the treat of watching a play based off a board game -- sort of.

State College will have its own Little Italy for a few weeks.

It's that time of the month again -- First Thursday is showcasing some returning and some new participants in this celebration of the arts.

Who killed Mr. Boddy? Was it Mrs. Peacock in the ballroom with the candlestick? Or was it Colonel Mustard in the lounge with the revolver?

Facebook and Comcast Interactive Media's Ziddio.com have teamed up to create a user-generated video contest in which members can create and upload short videos about their lives.

Stephen Colbert gave one Penn State professor her daily dose of "truthiness" last night.
