Officials: Man stabbed by wife

Collegian Staff Writer

Police apprehended a Muncy woman yesterday a few hours after police said her husband walked into a College Township office bleeding "profusely."

The woman, Christine C. DeRosa Balliet, 48, had thrust a kitchen blade into her husband's chest while driving before running him over with a sport utility vehicle, police said.

She is being held in Centre County prison in lieu of $1 million bail on charges of attempted first-degree murder, two felony charges of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, and one count each of recklessly endangering another person and possessing instruments of crime. State College police said she admitted to stabbing her husband, Ronald Balliet, 48, also of Muncy, at about 11:50 a.m. yesterday while she was driving near the 800 block of Boalsburg Road.

He was taken to the Mount Nittany Medical Center with a stab wound -- which was not considered life threatening -- and scratches on his chin and arm, according to a State College Police Department press release.

State College police allege that Christine Balliet plunged a kitchen knife with a 3 1/2-inch blade into her husband's chest after a conversation pertaining to his communication with an old girlfriend.

Court documents indicate that the defendant believes Ronald Balliet is married to her for her money; however, he denied speaking with any ex-girlfriends and being with her for the money, according to the court documents.

Ronald Balliet told police he grabbed his wife's wrist to stop further attempts to stab him. He said he told his wife to pull the car over, which she did, and he rolled out; however, according to court documents, as he tried to walk away, the sound of spinning tires caused him to turn around and see the SUV in reverse heading toward him.

Ronald Balliet told police the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer knocked him to the ground beside the roadway. He said she then drove the car almost over his entire body, spare his head, but did not trample him with the tires, according to court documents.

He told police his wife then tossed the knife out of the window and left the area in the car, court documents indicate. He was able to walk to the closest building for help, police said.

Police found the bloody knife, evident tire marks and blood in the area of the incident, according to court documents.

The Balliets were driving from Muncy to State College to pick up a car from a local dealership at the time of the incident, according to the press release. Christine Balliet's preliminary hearing will be held Wednesday at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.
