Though the show is hosted by the Pennharmonics, it will also feature a number of other student a cappella groups. None of the Above (NOTA), Penn State's oldest a cappella group, will be joined by the Phi Mu Alpha fraternity's a cappella group The Dreamers, all-female group Savoir Faire and Air Force ROTC's "Wild Blue Yonders," who will kick off the evening with a performance of the National Anthem.
Also joining in the benefit will be the Army ROTC, which will perform the color guard.
Christine Pirot, a soprano in the Pennharmonics, said the group's charitable cause in this case is a personal one.
"My fiancé is leaving for his third combat tour," Pirot said. "It's a personal cause for the group at this point just because we're all tied into it."
Pirot said she was introduced to the charity when she was working as a volunteer at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
"I personally got a sense of what our soldiers are dealing with when they come back here," Pirot said.
The group's public relations manager Greg Heleniak said the personal connection to the charity is a tradition the group tries to keep at every year's show.
"Each year the group picks a charity that we'd like to see the proceeds go to," Heleniak said. "It's a very timely issue.
We try to pick something that's close to us as a group."
Heleniak said the choice to perform in Thomas Building was warranted by the overwhelming demand of last year's Shamrockappella.
"We usually get a very large crowd," he said. "We had it in Schwab [Auditorium] two years ago and we had 600 to 700 people."
The concert will be the 12th annual Shamrockappella and the 10th of which the proceeds go to charity.
Tickets for this year's show will be $3 for Penn State students and $4.99 for the public at the door. Donations to the Wounded Warrior Project will also be accepted.
