Senior center picked for All-Big Ten team
Amanda Brown earned a berth on the All-Big Ten team for the second-straight year as the senior post player was selected to the All-Conference first team by the league's 11 coaches and to the second team by the members of the media, it was announced by the Big Ten office yesterday.
Junior guard Kam Gissendanner and freshman guard Tyra Grant each garnered honorable mention accolades by both the coaches and the media, while Grant was an All-Freshman team honoree. Brown was also a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient.
Brown, who was a second-team choice by the coaches last season, is the first Lady Lion to earn first team accolades since Tanisha Wright and Jess Strom in 2005.
Brown leads the Big Ten and is 27th nationally in rebounding at a 10.0 per game mark. Additionally, she is eighth in the league in scoring (14.2), third in field goal percentage (.600) and sixth in blocked shots (1.6).
Brown's 13 double-doubles are second in the conference, while her 10 double-doubles in conference play top the league charts.
Gissendanner, who was also an honorable mention selection last season, came on strong during conference play as she averaged 15.2 points per game, which is tied for fifth in the Big Ten.
The junior guard has 20 double-digit scoring outputs, including four appearances with 20 or more points. She also accounts for 3.1 rebounds per game and has 50 assists on the year.
Grant has exploded onto the Penn State scene as the rookie guard leads the team and is fifth in the Big Ten in scoring with a 14.6 mark per game.
Her 424 points place her third on the Lady Lion freshman season scoring chart, behind Kelly Mazzante and Susan Robinson.
