Marvin Gardens landlord Rodney Hendricks could face up to $20,000 in fines for borough code violations relating to a Nov. 14 fire that destroyed an apartment on South Pugh Street, Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira said today.
Madeira said Hendricks received 60 separate citations for "smoke alarm and carbon monoxide violations in the Marvin Gardens apartment complex."
However, Madeira said Hendricks would not face criminal charges because they were not "appropriate" to the situation.
A Centre County Code Administration investigation in November concluded that Hendricks had violated a 2005 borough ordinance because there were no smoke detectors in the bedrooms of the destroyed apartment or in the common stairwell between apartments.
Centre County Senior Fire Inspector Tim Knisely said Hendricks had corrected the violations within 48 hours of the inspection after the fire, but "the violations still occurred."
Madeira said the citations each carried a minimum fine of between $300 and $500.
