Let's strip away the names and labels from the Thon sweatshirts and take inventory on why people participate in Thon. Every single person, greek and independent, has their own reason. As a student I witnessed selfless sacrifice and self-promotion all in the name of Thon. I believe it is unfair to single out the greeks as the only Thon offenders. Thon has grown so much that it has created its own heirarchy free of direct greek involvement. People from all walks of campus life join Thon as if it is a club and some have three-year plans to get to be an overall if they play their cards right. I suppose the corporate mentality evolved with the growth of the event. Now it can be promoted as a great resume builder. We shouldn't be all that surprised. Most people have their hearts in the right place when it comes to the event. However, a small minority have a skewed view of why they are there. Just a little FYI, those with the skewed viewpoints don't all wear greek letters.
