News in Brief

Ice melting causes unsafe conditions

Rising temperatures have caused dangerous ice and snow slides from buildings on campus, Office of the Physical Plant spokesman Paul Ruskin said. He added that students and faculty are encouraged to use extreme caution when walking or parking anywhere on campus.

While no one has been injured, workers have seen some "close calls," Ruskin said.

Some buildings have been affected more than others, including the Palmer Museum of Art, Atherton, McElwain and Simmons Halls in South, all of West Halls and Old Main.

OPP is working on clearing the snow and ice from rooftops as quickly as possible.

Schreyer gets scholarship funds

The Schreyer Honors College announced yesterday that it has received two new endowments totaling $250,000, to be used to establish merit scholarships for honors college students.

According to live.psu.edu, Ronald J. and Pratima Singh Gatehouse of State College donated $150,000, and Richard and Ann Marie Whitney of Manhattan Beach, California, donated $100,000.
