Mike “The Mailman” Herr danced around the Thon stage as members of the crowd cheered him on, creating an excited buzz that flooded through the Bryce Jordan Center (BJC) early Saturday morning.
“You’ve got mail!” he screamed, eliciting cheers and whoops from the tired crowd.
The dancers – and their moralers – were finally about to experience one of the most anticipated events of Thon weekend: mail call.
Phil Yimger (junior-biology), who is dancing for Golden Key, said mail call is encouraging.
“It encourages and helps me get through the last hours,” he said.
Planning for the event began in September, mail call captain Roopa Patel said. The past two weeks, however, is when the mail began coming in, Nancy Morisseau, the other mail call captain, said.
“A lot of inspirational letters [were sent] that came from family and friends,” Patel said. “It gives them their third or fourth wind by this time.”
