Mail Call sweetens Thon kids' nights

Collegian Staff Writer

Four Diamonds children filed through a Candy Land set to receive their Thon mail from Thon Family Relations Overall Mary Rowe, dressed as King Kandy.

The Four Diamonds children received the mail in a plastic Penn State Bookstore bag, which was filled with cards made out of construction paper and a t-shirt for each child.

Seven-year-old Trent Golden, whose eighth birthday is this weekend, had smile on his face as he clutched his bag.

"I like getting mail. I got cards from Thon and my birthday," he said. "I liked getting my shirt too."

Joy Smoker, 10, enjoyed the cards with a little more than just crayon on them.

"I liked the ones with the foam cutouts," she said.

Thon child Kristen Jackson said she liked getting Thon mail, as well as seeing King Kandy. When asked what her favorite part of Thon so far was, the little girl seemed overwhelmed by the thought of choosing just one favorite part.

"I just don't know," she said, nodding to affirm the fact.
