About two hours past the halfway point, many dancers are saying their spirits are high and their feet are hurting.
"It's the aches and pains that get you," John Irwin (senior-economics) said while taking a break from the crowded floor in the South Annex with fellow dancer Jackie Noto (senior-meteorology).
"Yeah, it’s not so much that I’m tired, my feet just hurt," she said.
Both dancers said there are plenty of reasons to keep dancing.
"What really keeps me going are all the people here supporting me -- my friends and the organization I'm representing," Irwin said.
Irwin is dancing for the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and Noto is dancing for the Kappa Delta sorority.
Allison Gerber (junior-nutrition) said she was surprised that she was still fully awake. "It's just my feet, my feet are killing me," she said.
Members of the morale committee are offering foot massages to sore dancers in the South Annex. It’s also common to spot dancers taking turns massaging each other’s shoulders on the floor.
Some dancers are finding alternative forms of comfort.
Gerber said she is enjoying the free food, water and Gatorade available to the dancers. Others lean against each other or a wall for a break. One dancer was fighting back tears. Some said they are just trying to keep busy by meeting all the kids and participating in the events on the floor.
"All the activities and theme hours keep you occupied," Noto said.
Gloria King (sophomore-mechanical engineering) said although she's a little tired, she's still in good spirits.
"I am getting a little bit tired," she said. "But so far so good. I'll definitely make it to the end."
Despite not being allowed to know the time, many dancers say they have a good sense of what time of day it is.
"I would say it's around dinner time on Saturday night," King said.
"Saturday evening, for sure," Gerber said.
