[ Updated Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007 ]

A national salmonella outbreak has been linked to Peter Pan and Great Value brand peanut butter, the Associated Press reported, and there is at least one possible case in State College.

The Penn State athletic department announced that the annual Blue-White Game will kick-off at 2 p.m. April 21, after the conclusion of spring drills.

A small fire occurred at about 3 p.m. today at the Hotel State College building, 100 W. College Ave.

The Concerned Voters of Centre County have been lobbying officials to ban touchscreen voting machines before the May 15 municipal election, and now they could get their wish on a much bigger level.

Madame Jehan Sadat, the former Egyptian first lady who broke barriers for Middle Eastern women, will share her experiences and insight tonight as part of the 2006-2007 Distinguished Speakers Series.

Recent inclement weather has forced the American Red Cross to cancel several campus blood drives, resulting in a large dip in the Red Cross' blood supply, representatives from the organization said yesterday.

Love was in the air for everyone gathered around the steps of Old Main last night.

In her apartment, which was coincidentally decorated in red, white and black on Valentine's Day, Camille Tiangco sat cross-legged on her couch with a beaming smile on her face.

The Schreyer Honors College has seen a recent boom in applicants since a new online process replaced its traditional paper application.

This weekend, one of Project Runway's aspiring designers will grace the stage at Thon to serve as host of the kids' fashion show.

Mike Walker crouched alone at the foul line with his head in his hands.

After causing the first Penn State cancellation since 2003 yesterday, the snowfall might finally be ending, according to weather reports.

Not even several inches of snowfall will stop a group of 15 Thon supporters delivering letters -- on foot -- from families in Hershey Medical Center to the Bryce Jordan Center during Thon.

Some people believe laughter is the best medicine.

Penn State released an official response yesterday to last week's anti-discrimination sit-in at Old Main, saying the university is dedicated to promoting a tolerant climate on campus.

News in brief

SPORTS

Penn State ACHA Division I Icers head coach Scott Balboni said all his team needed to earn a No. 1 national ranking and the top seed in the national tournament was one win on the road against Ohio this past week.

The longest distance the Penn State men's lacrosse team will have to travel from University Park this season is a weekend trip to Amherst, Mass., for a game against University of Massachusetts -- a 406-mile bus ride that mapquest.com estimates will take them about six hours, 40 minutes.

Karen Long can't wait for Feb. 18.

Soon after students made their way past the kids sledding outside, and filed into the previously empty Bryce Jordan Center an hour before game time last night, it was evident -- if the first few chants at the Buckeyes were any indication -- that many were intrigued by freshman center Greg Oden.

In what has become somewhat of a trend this season, the Penn State women's basketball team is preparing at home to avenge a loss of a self-admittedly winnable game on the road.

John Amaechi was touched to hear that former Penn State teammates and coaches said his sexual orientation wouldn't have been an issue -- but by no means does he think his decision to stay in the closet until a week ago was misguided.

In the first period of a match this year against Northwestern's Dustin Fox -- the then-ranked No. 4 heavyweight in the country -- Penn State heavyweight Aaron Anspach went careening off the mat and into the stands with a loud thud that echoed throughout Rec Hall.

In the Penn State baseball clubhouse, it's been hard to ignore the energy. A new stadium will be home for a team made up of fresh faces, giving new hope to a squad that puttered to a seventh place finish in the conference.

Is ethanol for fuel being produced the same way as alcohol in beer is made?

Two weeks ago, The Vagina Monologues spoke about issues surrounding the female genitalia -- well, tonight, it's men's turn.

Today, better known in some circles as "That's What She Said" Day, should be arousing.

My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero was in Los Angeles recovering from a huge infection after having his wisdom teeth removed, but he still took the time to speak to college newspapers across the country for a conference call. Some highlights:

Imagine an atmosphere with free-flowing jazz music, passionate musicians and the spirit of New Orleans.

"It's a big secret."

Although he plays a mandolin and fiddle, Sam Bush will have the mentality of a rock star when he takes the stage this Saturday night at the State Theatre, 130 W. College Ave.
