State College resident affected by salmonella outbreak

A national salmonella outbreak has been linked to Peter Pan and Great Value brand peanut butter, the Associated Press reported, and there is at least one possible case in State College.

Gail Ritchey, a State College resident, says she became very sick last Tuesday after eating a snack of peanut butter and celery. When she heard about the outbreak, she found the product code 2111 on her jar of peanut butter - the code of the affected jars, according to the Associated Press.

Ritchey said she bought the peanut butter at either Weis Markets, 110 Rolling Ridge Dr., or Wegmans Food Markets, 345 Colonnade Blvd., and has seven jars on her shelves bearing the suspect numerical code on the jar lids.

Tammy Seamans, a manager at Weis Market on Martin Street, said the store pulled all jars with the codes from shelves this morning before the store opened. No one from the local Wegmans could be reached for comment.
