Lions remain No. 11; Davis moves to No. 1
The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team, under the guidance of veteran head coach Troy Sunderland, maintained its No. 11 team ranking in the latest USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll as released by Intermat. Junior Phil Davis is ranked No. 1 at 197 to lead six Penn State individuals in the weigh-by-weight listings.
Minnesota holds down the No. 1 spot, followed by Iowa State (2), Missouri (3), Oklahoma State (4) and Central Michigan (5). Edinboro steps in at No. 6 with Illinois (7), Hofstra (8), Wisconsin (9), Iowa (10) and Penn State (11) following the Scots.
Northwestern (14), Indiana (18), Ohio State (21), Michigan State (22) and Michigan (23) are the other Big Ten schools ranked in the top 25. In all, ten of the conference's 11 teams are ranked, giving the Big Ten a full 40 percent of the teams listed. Penn State, which is 12-5 overall and 3-3 in conference duals, owns wins over No. 6 Edinboro, No. 10 Iowa, No. 12 Cornell, No. 14 Northwestern, No. 21 Ohio State and No. 24 Lehigh. Penn State's five losses are all to teams ranked in the top ten: No. 1 Minnesota, No. 6 Edinboro, No. 7 Illinois, No. 8 Hofstra and No. 9 Wisconsin.
The Nittany Lions will close out their dual meet season this coming weekend with two road duals against ranked opponents. The Lions visit No. 23 Michigan in a 7 p.m. contest and then trek to No. 22 Michigan State for a 1 p.m. dual on Sunday.
Season ticket prices will rise $21 next year
Football season-ticket holders will have to dig in their pockets a little deeper for the next season -- but the increase will not affect Penn State students.
According to the team Web site, prices for regular season-ticket holders will increase $21 to $343. In addition, fans that prefer chairback seats will have to pay $406 for the 2007-08 season.
Season car parking will remain at $70. And season RV parking is $140.
The 6.5 percent hike for regular season-ticket holders comes months after Penn State's 20-10 upset victory over Tennessee. Joe Paterno helped lead the Nittany Lions to a 9-4 record and won his 22nd bowl -- the most all-time in college football.
This season, the Lions feature eight home games: Florida International (Sept. 1), Notre Dame (Sept. 8), Buffalo (Sept. 15), Iowa (Oct. 6), Wisconsin (Oct. 13), Ohio State (Oct. 27) and Purdue (Nov. 3).
