Rival schools' marathons deserve to be applauded

Thank you for acknowledging the efforts of other schools in the fight against cancer ("More than one 'thon' for the kids," Feb. 13). I completely support Thon and the amazing cause, but I am really sick of people mocking other dance marathons and viewing them as inferior.

I have heard multiple people insult Rutger's linedance, and just today I overheard a couple laugh at the fact that Pitt "only" raised $56,000 this year. I guess they forgot that it took Thon 10 years to break the six-figure mark.

Yes, we raise millions every year and are doing an amazing thing, but to be so superficial and look down on other schools for copying a slogan or not raising as much or dancing as long is completely ridiculous.

If we are involved with Thon for the right reasons and truly to raise money for the kids and their battle with cancer, we should be rooting for other schools and applauding their hard work and sincere efforts.
