Borough plowing in progress, complete removal tomorrow

Collegian Staff Writers

Three inches of snow have already fallen in State College and the Public Works Department is preparing for snow removal tomorrow night.

John Tharp, vice president of radio operations at the Campus Weather Service, said six to 12 inches of snowfall is expected tonight, as well as six more Wednesday.

Mark Whitfield, public works director for State College, said plowing in the borough began at 11 a.m. today and cars that remain on the street overnight are subject to towing if any more snow accumulates.

Whitfield added that the Public Works Department will begin to remove snow from the downtown streets completely at midnight on Wednesday and all cars must also be moved by 2 a.m. Thursday or they will be subject to towing.

"Snow removal is always the toughest for us," he said.

He also said sidewalks in the borough must be cleared by the property owner, including downtown businesses, and must be cleared within 24 hours of when the snowfall stops, or the property owner could face a citation.
