Details of the investigation and search to locate two men who police say shot a woman in the face Thursday are being kept quiet to protect the victim, police said.
Patton Township Police Chief John Petrick said the woman's condition is "status quo" given the nature of the wound. He would not comment further.
The gun was triggered inches from the face of the State College woman, whose identity police are still withholding. She was shot at about 9:30 p.m. in her third-floor apartment at 319 Toftrees Ave., police said.
On Thursday, Patton Township Police Sgt. Frank Monroe said the 24-year-old woman was in stable condition at the Hershey Medical Center.
Petrick said detectives are interviewing "numerous" people for the investigation, but he would not comment on any leads or suspects.
However, police determined that the shooting was an "isolated incident" and not a "random act," Petrick said. Monroe said Thursday that the woman was "deliberately targeted for a specific reason," but he would not comment further.
The woman was able to tell police that she believes two black men forced their way into her apartment, Monroe said. The woman said the men left on foot in an unknown direction, he added.
Petrick would not comment on a motive. He said police are "not discussing what was taken, if anything was taken." He did not say if drugs were involved.
Police said the shooting is not related to burglaries and assaults that have occurred during the past month in the State College area, according to a Patton Township police press release.
Petrick said he is unaware if the victim has any affiliation to Penn State as a student, graduate or employee.
Police ask that anyone who has information about the shooting call the Patton Township Police Department at 234-0273.
