Lions victorious against rival Pittsburgh
Women's Gymnastics

As junior Aslynn Satterfield took the floor for the first time all season against Pittsburgh, her brother and the rest of "Aslynn's Army" held up signs and cheered to welcome her back from her wrist injury. Like a true competitor, she picked up right where she left off.

"I was nervous, but I was definitely very excited to get back," Satterfield said. "I'm feeling pretty good and my legs are surprisingly not sore."

After a shaky start, Satterfield and the Nittany Lions defeated rival Pittsburgh 195.075-192.825 on Saturday. The team also walked away with four titles and a season high in the floor exercise.

"We made a good effort coming back from being down," Penn State head coach Steve Shephard said. "I don't think any of us expected to be down at all. We bounced back and did a really nice job on beam and holding it together after we had a fall. It was also very exciting to see Aslynn back in the lineup. She's a hitter, and I don't think she has ever missed a floor routine at Penn State."

Along with Satterfield's 9.875 second place floor exercise performance, Brandi Personett took the crown with a stellar 9.900 and also placed second in the all-around. Although she felt she did well on the floor, she took a fall in the vault and is looking to touch up her skills.

"My tumbling has been the same every meet, so this time I tried to get into the crowd a little bit, and that seemed to help," Personett said. "I feel like I lack confidence in the vault just because it's so new, but I can definitely hit the landings in the gym. I just need to stay confident and get more numbers and meets in."

Katie Perret shared both the title of the uneven bars with Lindsay Montross and the beam with Stephanie Sullivan. Even with her third title
in the uneven bars, Perret still believes that there is room for improvement.

"I definitely can do better but it is great to see that we are scoring big when we aren't even hitting the best we can yet," Perret said.

Sullivan also received the Ann Carr Award along with her co-title on
the beam. She has confidence that her team will continue in stepping up in meets and realizing its full potential.

"We have a team that can bounce back from anything and we did that on the beam and the floor," Sullivan said. "Even though we had a fall in the vault, it's a place that we're going to step up in a few weeks."

Freshman Rosie Smith took the title in the vault with a career-high score of 9.825 and freshman Alexandra Brockway took second with a 9.8000.

In preparation for next weekend's away meet against Michigan, Shephard is looking finalize the lineup in order to peak and continue to perform consistently.

"We still need to work on who is going to be in the lineup," Shepard said.

"Our exhibition kids are doing a great job and it makes it tough when they are beating kids in the lineup. We just have to polish things up and continue to work on our confidence."
