Lady Lion named to All-Academic team
Senior post player Amanda Brown was rewarded for her success in the classroom with her second consecutive berth on the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II second team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Brown, who owns a 3.53 GPA as a Life Science major, garnered the academic second team selection in District II, which consists of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia. To be eligible for academic honors, a student-athlete must earn a 3.2 cumulative GPA or higher, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and be a starter or key reserve for their team.
On the court, Brown is a two-time Big Ten Player of the Week selection this season and leads the team in scoring (13.8), rebounding (9.8), field goal percentage (.577) and blocked shots (39). Her rebounding mark is tops in the Big Ten and 25th in NCAA Division I. Brown is just the third player in school history to accumulate 1,000 points, 700 rebounds and 150 blocked shots, joining Andrea Garner and Rashana Barnes as the only Lady Lions to accomplish the feat. Brown is also on pace to break the school record for career field goal percentage, currently held by Angie Potthoff (.574).
In the classroom, Brown is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten choice and has earned the Lady Lion Academic Achievement Award in 2004 and 2006.
