I don't understand the purpose of this column ("Barbaro bids farewell to his fans," Feb. 5).

I believe in the right to express one's opinion.

However, in this piece there is no educational content, just another person's opinion on the situation.

If you want to bash Barbaro and the horseracing industry, why not create a Web site or blog instead of wasting your paper's time and resources to publish such drivel?

As for the columnist, why don't you find a more constructive use for your time, like writing a letter to Mom and Dad thanking them for the privilege of a higher education?
