Police: Man assaulted with metal rods

Three men demanded money from an individual at a downtown apartment complex at about 8:20 p.m. yesterday, and proceeded to beat him with metal rods when he resisted, State College police said.

The suspects -three white males- approached the victim at Meridian Apartments, 747 E. Beaver Ave. As the victim attempted to resist their demands for his money, two of the three suspects attacked him with metal rods, according to a press release.

Police said as the victim was being attacked, he attempted to call 911 with his cell phone, but one of the suspects smashed the phone with his foot.

The suspects escaped with the victim's coat and wallet, which contained an undisclosed amount of cash and his identification.

Police were assisted at the scene by Centre Lifelink EMS, according to the press release.

Police have provided descriptions of the three suspects, and the victim was able to complete a composite sketch of the first suspect.

The first suspect is described as an 18 to 22 year old white male, 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall, 165 to 175 pounds, with a stocky build, olive complexion, and very short, neatly trimmed hair. He was last seen wearing a yellowish/brown hooded sweatshirt, police said.

The second suspect is described as an 18 to 22 year old white male, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 2 inches tall, 175 pounds, with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a navy blue and white horizontally striped long sleeve rugby style shirt and blue jeans, police said.

The third suspect is described as an 18 to 22 year old white male, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 2 inches tall, and 180 to 190 pounds.
