The charges filed against the Penn State graduate student accused of damaging university buildings with anti-sweatshop messages were dismissed this afternoon because of lack of evidence.
Olivia Guevara was charged with criminal mischief involving tampering with private property, stemming from the night of Sept. 27, when she and six other students allegedly wrote on several campus buildings, including Willard and Old Main. After viewing clips of a surveilance tape from that night, Centre County District Judge Jonathan Grine said that Guevara was only identifiable in one instance. He said the tape showed Guevara writing on a column in front of Old Main.
Grine said because there were no photographs or other evidence of the damage to the column, Guevara could not be held liable for the damage.
