Waking Ashland started three years ago and is constantly touring. The band played about 250 shows last year, Jones said. Its blend of "upbeat pop rock" will be showcased with the release of a new album in April.
"We don't take ourselves too seriously, [but] we're not like a joke band," Jones said. "We just write music that we care about."
SoZo's recently started holding concerts, as student booking agents saw the need for more live music in the area, SoZo coordinator William Snyder said.
"We haven't done any rock concerts until maybe a month ago," Snyder said.
For Cloverleaf, this show celebrates the release of its DVD, which has hours of concert footage, drummer Garrett Bogden said.
"When we started the band about a year and a half ago, our friend wanted to make a documentary on us for his own hobby," Bogden said. "He kept getting more and more footage, and maybe about eight months ago we actually started to think about releasing a DVD. He followed us around and showed different clips from shows."
Mattie Leon, who describes himself as a fan of the Beatles, John Mayer and U2, says he's not ashamed to admit that he likes Justin Timberlake's music as well.
Leon is from Ontario, Canada, where he and his brother have a band. While he is away from home, Leon plays acoustic music.
"Down here it's just strictly acoustic because my band is basically back home. So here I just turn band songs into acoustic. I wouldn't call it too sappy; I try to keep it upbeat," he said.
