Downtown State College was a fashion hot spot Friday night.
The Third Annual Equinox Charity Fashion Show, showcasing Maxwell's Designer Clothing, was held at the State Theatre to benefit the House of Care, a nonprofit organization for terminally ill and financially disadvantaged elderly people in the community.
Simon Hawk, designer of Maxwell's Designer Clothing, said the inspiration for his work is urban lifestyle. Hawk is also the owner of the downtown store JJ by Maxwell, 109 S. Pugh St. Doors opened at 6 p.m. for a trade expo of local designers, including Stya, Housewrecker and Found Clothing, all sold at JJ by Maxwell.
"I started designing because I wanted to have something different for normal people to wear. We have stuff a little more progressive and edgy," Chris Ruggiero, designer for Found Clothing, said.
Syta's table had a nature feel -- the simple T-shirts on display had images of animals, mainly foxes.
By 7 p.m., nearly the entire theatre was full of audience members eager to see Simon Hawk's designs. Twenty minutes later the show began with pictures of the models on a big screen.
The first model came out in a yellow bikini with caution tape wrapped around her legs and body. Shortly after, one of the first male models walked out in a yellow Speedo as the girls in the audience screamed even louder.
There was a wide variety in the show, from men in chains and fur jackets to girls in cheetah print and peacock feathers.
"I loved the show. It was full of energy," Jenna Dawson (junior-English and art history) said. "Maxwell is a very different designer."
