The No.12 Penn State wrestling team came away with a dominating, 25-8, upset against No. 10 Northwestern last night.
The Nittany Lions (11-6, 2-3 Big Ten) saved their best for last, with knockout punches from No. 3 Phil Davis and No. 13 Aaron Anspach in the final two matches of the evening.
Coming off of three straight wins by pin, Davis made quick work of No. 2 Mike Tamillow in an 8-2 decision to bring the fans in Rec Hall to their feet.
In the heavyweight bout, Anspach followed with a convincing 5-2 win over No. 4 Dustin Fox. The Wildcat wrestler was only able to score two escapes against Anspach, who was honored with the Ridge Riley (MVP) award for the meet.
Other notable wins from the night came at the hands of No. 7 James Yonushonis, Jake Strayer, and Bryan Heller. The freshmen combination of Dan Vallimont, Bubba Jenkins, and Dave Rella also came away victorious.
Penn State will attempt to carry the momentum to its match against No. 6 Iowa tomorrow at noon. The final home meet will also mark Senior Day for this year's squad.
