Letter to the Editor
Drivers need to proceed with caution on campus

The Balfurd's clock read 8:13 p.m. as I was walking home from an almost 12-hour day of classes Wednesday.

Looking both ways, as I crossed the street on the green light, I saw a white sports car that seemed to be waiting for me to cross (since I did in fact have the right of way) before he made the left turn onto Atherton.

Suddenly, the driver of the white car decided to accelerate and make the turn, putting myself right in his way.

Jumping out of the way to avoid being hit and undoubtedly saving myself from injury, I was glad that I always watch the cars as I cross the road.

Although this was a scary experience for me, due to my vigilance and quick movement I saved myself and the driver a serious problem.

Yet is this really the pedestrian's responsibility?

Shouldn't drivers be more scared of hitting someone as a cause of their recklessness behind the wheel?

The driver in the white car did not even stop, possibly because he saw that I was not hit, just slightly agitated.

Perhaps he wanted to continue on like nothing happened.

All I hope is that he learned something and will watch closer for pedestrians in the future.
