For the most part, everyone loves snow. It gives people of all age groups and backgrounds a medium to have fun. Sure it's all innocent and sweet -- until you're forced to walk through it to class. Normally, Penn State has been efficient at clearing sidewalks, at least when there's more than an inch to be found. Yet, when we get that meager quarter inch of snow, things fall out of place.
For everyone I know, the trek around campus on Tuesday was ripe with near disaster. Unshoveled and unsalted walkways lead to a slip-n-slide scenario. I myself stumbled down the stairs outside of the Forum and was able to catch myself. However, in the process of catching myself I landed on my wrist, an action that broke my watch's wrist strap. Simultaneously, in an odd engineering failure, the zipper on my coat was seemingly stretched just enough that it can no longer zipper. Just great.
How long before someone suffers a worse spill, breaks a bone or cracks their head? Or worse, lands on their iPod? Additionally, who do I get to foot the bill to for a $70 strap and a new coat? OPP? President Graham Spanier himself?
