Penn State not sole owner of White Out and cheers
In regard to the Tim Buckley's letter ("Fan angered by Ohio State," Jan. 29), I think we all need to calm down. I get a kick out of people saying OSU is "stealing" our White Out. We're ignoring the fact that we "stole" it from the Miami Heat ... which "stole" it from the Winnipeg Jets ... which "stole" it from ... you get the point. What about us playing "Hey Baby" at football games, which is also done by Nebraska and many other schools? How many times have you heard "Zombie Nation" at a non-Penn State sporting event? Or throwing people in the air after touchdowns in Beaver Stadium, which was started at Notre Dame? It all goes back to Kirk Herbstreit saying, "I think this is the best student section in the country," after the Ohio State game in 2005. Then everyone started running around saying, "ESPN voted us the number one student section in the world!" It was one man's opinion, not a democratic election. There are 119 Division I football schools and more than 300 D-I basketball schools. How many cheers or showings of support can anyone say they really "own?" When the Buckeyes start cheering, "We are... Ohio State!" then we can get mad. Until then, try stopping by the Bryce Jordan Center for one of our games; the boys need the support. Kevin Flintosh
