As the former president of the Nittwits, I'm not only disgusted at the column written by Mark Myers ("Student section lacking energy," Jan. 25), I'm very heartbroken. Let's start by spelling Nittwits correctly. Secondly, you have some nerve talking about the Nittwits in the way you did. Actually, you aren't even talking about the Nittwits -- you're talking about the "other" students who randomly attend games.
Have you noticed student turnout this year compared to the last several years when we didn't even have a student section? Did you notice that when the Izzone chanted "Lazy Nittwits" that is when we were saluting the veterans at the game?
And I'm sorry, but we don't know how to interact? When we had tables set up in the HUB a few years ago people said "Oh, we have a basketball team?" or "Our team sucks." When cops stopped us from driving around yelling at people to go to a basketball game after a huge win against Illinois and when we try to camp out for a game only to be kicked out -- that doesn't even stop us from trying to do whatever we can to still support our team. Maybe this town needs to look both ways before crossing the double-standard road and stop being blind to the fact that football is not the only sport here.
