While The Daily Collegian works hard to maintain its credibility -- something that I commend it for -- the editor in chief's column in response to Phroth's Phaily Phollegian ("Practical joke may be lost on students," Jan. 26) failed to address the core of the issues at hand. It's easy to see how the publication could be interpreted as poking fun at the Collegian when, in actuality, the real issue is the relative triviality of many of the issues that there are to report on campus. The Collegian has dedicated countless articles to the restructuring of USG into UPUA and on the possible reorganization of UPAC.
Despite all the good intentions of the students working on these goals, the fact remains that I have yet to see any form of effective student government during my time here at Penn State. While those issues are better off saved for another time, that is just one example of the inanity of campus news and the lack of progress that has been made in my three years at Penn State.
To the Collegian: I hope you continue to report the news. Don't take offense at Phroth's mocking of your news reports; it's not the reports that they mock, it's the news. If any good can come from it, it may be the start of actual progress.
