I innocently turned on my television set Saturday evening to tune in to the Ohio State-Michigan State basketball game on ESPN. Much to my surprise, the Buckeye crowd in Columbus was uniformly sporting white T-shirts. This was a blatant slap in the face to every Nittany Lion fan, as it is clearly a rip-off of Penn State's White Outs in Beaver Stadium. The very same White Outs, mind you, that have been so effective in intimidating opposing teams (remember that, OSU fans?). As a fellow member of the Big Ten, I find it shocking that Ohio State would attempt a White Out, as it clearly shows a lack of originality on their part. In addition to the plagiarism of this stunt is the fact that the colors of 'The' Ohio State University are scarlet and grey -- not scarlet, grey, and white. It would be one thing if Michigan State or Indiana were to stage a White Out as they lay a claim to the color white as well, but for Ohio State to attempt this clearly defies logic. It is said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, in which case Penn State should be beaming with pride. However, I can't help but turn scarlet with anger as the Buckeye nation gave Penn State yet another reason to hate O-HI-O.
